The Shipping module in Connected Business has included a key feature, the Weight Threshold option that has the ability to enter a maximum weight threshold and have the system split the realtime shipping rate carrier requests based from the defined weight threshold. One good exmaple on this is that if an order weighs 50lbs, and a 20lb maximum weight threshold has been set, then we would make three separate freight charge requests to the carrier – 1) 20lbs, 2) 20lbs, 3) 10lbs and add up the values.
You can now set the weight threshold for each orders placed by indicating the maximum weight on the selected shipping method. In this process, every order exceeding the weight limit is subject to additional shipping fees. This allows you to restrict and manage packages and package weights for every order.
Let us assume that you have correctly setup the carrier information. If you have not yet set it up, you may refer to our Online Documentation. These are the required information prior to setting a weight threshold on every order placed by a customer:
- The Weight of the Item must be indicated. Each inventory item must have an indicated weight in order for the carrier to calculate the freight based on the item’s accumulated weight.
You can change the type of system measurement to use by going to System Manager > Account > My Account. On the My Account form, select the available options on the System Measurement field. You may select between: Metric (Weight: in Kgs) or English (Weight: in lbs).

- Indicate the Weight on the Weight Threshold Option in the Shipping Method
On the selected Shipping Method, indicate the weight on the Weight Threshold Option. This can be done by going to ShippingModule ► Setup ► Shipping ► Shipping Method.

The shipping method selected must be included in the default Shipping Method Group.
After setting up the required fields on their respective forms, you can now proceed in creating an order/invoice. When you create an order or invoice, make sure to select the configured shipping method, as well as select the item with the weight.
Indicate the quantity of the item on the Quantity field. Click on the Freight Quotebutton.

When you set a weight threshold, the system automatically creates a new box to separate the items that exceeds the weight limit. The freight quote is also indicated each of the separate packages.
